In this section of the website, I share my thoughts on topics regarding performance practice, technique, musicality, and the music business. As a full-time orchestral timpanist, many of the articles will naturally be geared toward the topic of timpani performance – especially as it pertains to the young, aspiring timpanist – but in an effort to avoid repeating ideas that have already been discussed in depth elsewhere, I will try to keep my topics as personalized as possible. In fact, my primary inspiration and motivation for creating this blog is the rather unusual journey of my professional career to date. From my start in America’s only full-time chamber orchestra to my current position in one of Germany’s top radio orchestras, I’ve been fortunate to gain unique insight into music making and the music business on both sides of the Atlantic.
